Compass was formed in 2023 in Douglas County, Oregon.  We are a 100% local, 501(c)(3) nonprofit Christian home education community. Those in our community share the calling to educate our children from home for the purpose of discipleship, under the provision and protection of the parents.

We gather as a community to learn, to be encouraged, and to enrich the schooling experience for our family. We gather to serve one another with a multitude of gifts, strengths, interests, and experience. We gather to dive deeper in our understanding, challenge our thinking, develop skills, play, and cultivate friendships that hold us up in prayer on the heavy days, and share pictures and laughter on the lighter ones.

Compass provides structured learning in community, because we want to invest our time well.  We employ the classical model - grammar, logic, rhetoric - in some of our classes, but are not limited in our methods or classes because we believe there are many ways and things to learn! We want our children to learn lots of good things, and to enjoy the process. We strive for excellence, and work as unto the Lord, but we are not defined by, nor do we define others by achievement. We are accountable to the Lord, to our families, and to our respective churches.

We, parents, acknowledge that we are part of a bigger plan for God's world. One that's generational. One that's filled with the hope of the Gospel. Which is why we want to spend time with our children, teaching them to live in the world, but not be of it.

Our goal, at Compass, is to pursue, serve and organize within our community to provide excellent classes and opportunities for both core subjects and special interests. From Pre-K to graduation, parents and tutors maintain complete discretion over their own children's studies, allowing space to pursue areas of interest that lay outside of a set curriculum or constraint. In this, we seek to both serve, and respect.

Praise God for the diversity of callings, skills and gifts of His people, that we may all, with one voice, glorify Him in all the sectors of this world until He comes again.
